Remyxx Dinner - June 09

.. after 2 years (I think) of not seeing each other as a group, Remyxx spent a night again -- this time to catch up and finally listen to Lucky's formal announcement.

Well it started out with some serious walking... from greenbelt, to glorietta 5, and back to greenbelt 5. We were pro's in injecting serious chats in between entering doors, having our bags checked, crossing department aisles, and crossing the street while pedestrian light was still red! whew.

underground walkway to glorietta 5. gotta find a way.

Lucky and Mheann both announced they're getting married few weeks back. Lucky will get married January of next year and Mheann on March 2011. This is just the perfect timing to finally get together.

Though no one from us ever planned a wedding before, seems like Rina and I knew exactly what to write down. In less than 5 months - everything should be set, including losing weight! :p

Congratulations to Lucky and Robert - hoping for fruitful and blessed years together!

EDIT: MIA - mhe and ivy. get well real soon mhe, and ivy - hope to see you soon!

Michael Jackson is dead

from yahoo

LOS ANGELES – Michael Jackson, the sensationally gifted child star who rose to become the "King of Pop" and the biggest celebrity in the world only to fall from his throne in a freakish series of scandals, died Thursday. He was 50. Jackson died at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. Ed Winter, the assistant chief coroner for Los Angeles County, confirmed his office had been notified of the death and would handle the investigation.

The circumstances of Jackson's death were not immediately clear. Jackson was not breathing when Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to a call at his Los Angeles home about 12:30 p.m., Capt. Steve Ruda told the Los Angeles Times. The paramedics performed CPR and took him to the hospital, Ruda told the newspaper.

Jackson's death brought a tragic end to a long, bizarre, sometimes farcical decline from his peak in the 1980s, when he was popular music's premier all-around performer, a uniter of black and white music who shattered the race barrier on MTV, dominated the charts and dazzled even more on stage.

His 1982 album "Thriller" — which included the blockbuster hits "Beat It," "Billie Jean" and "Thriller" — is the best-selling album of all time, with an estimated 50 million copies sold worldwide.

The public first knew him in the late 1960s, when as a boy he was the precocious, spinning lead singer of the Jackson 5, the music group he formed with his four older brothers. Among their No. 1 hits were "I Want You Back," "ABC," and "I'll Be There."

He was perhaps the most exciting performer of his generation, known for his feverish, crotch-grabbing dance moves and his high-pitched voice punctuated with squeals and titters. His single sequined glove, tight, military-style jacket and aviator sunglasses were trademarks second only to his ever-changing, surgically altered appearance.

"For Michael to be taken away from us so suddenly at such a young age, I just don't have the words," said Quincy Jones, who produced "Thriller." "He was the consummate entertainer and his contributions and legacy will be felt upon the world forever. I've lost my little brother today, and part of my soul has gone with him."

Jackson ranked alongside Elvis Presley and the Beatles as the biggest pop sensations of all time. He united two of music's biggest names when he was briefly married to Presley's daughter, Lisa Marie, and Jackson's death immediately evoked that of Presley himself, who died at age 42 in 1977.

As years went by, Jackson became an increasingly freakish figure — a middle-aged man-child weirdly out of touch with grown-up life. His skin became lighter, his nose narrower, and he spoke in a breathy, girlish voice. He surrounded himself with children at his Neverland ranch, often wore a germ mask while traveling and kept a pet chimpanzee named Bubbles as one of his closest companions.

"It seemed to me that his internal essence was at war with the norms of the world. It's as if he was trying to defy gravity," said Michael Levine, a Hollywood publicist who represented Jackson in the early 1990s. He called Jackson a "disciple of P.T. Barnum" and said the star appeared fragile at the time but was "much more cunning and shrewd about the industry than anyone knew."

Jackson caused a furor in 2002 when he playfully dangled his infant son, Prince Michael II, over a hotel balcony in Berlin while a throng of fans watched from below.

In 2005, he was cleared of charges he molested a 13-year-old cancer survivor at Neverland in 2003. He had been accused of plying the boy with alcohol and groping him, and of engaging in strange and inappropriate behavior with other children.

The case followed years of rumors about Jackson and young boys. In a TV documentary, he had acknowledged sharing his bed with children, a practice he described as sweet and not at all sexual.

Despite the acquittal, the lurid allegations that came out in court took a fearsome toll on his career and image, and he fell into serious financial trouble.

Jackson was preparing for what was to be his greatest comeback: He was scheduled for an unprecedented 50 shows at a London arena, with the first set for July 13. He was in rehearsals in Los Angeles for the concert, an extravaganza that was to capture the classic Jackson magic: showstopping dance moves, elaborate staging and throbbing dance beats.

Singer Dionne Warwick said: "Michael was a friend and undoubtedly one of the world's greatest entertainers that I fortunately had the pleasure of working with. ... We have lost an icon in our industry."

Hundreds of people gathered outside the hospital as word of his death spread. The emergency entrance at the UCLA Medical Center, which is near Jackson's rented home, was roped off with police tape.

"Ladies and gentlemen, Michael Jackson has just died," a woman boarding a Manhattan bus called out, shortly after the news was announced. Immediately many riders reached for their cell phones.

So many people wanted to verify the early reports of Jackson's death that the computers running Google's news section interpreted the fusillade of "Michael Jackson" requests as an automated attack for about half an hour Thursday evening.

In New York's Times Square, a low groan went up in the crowd when a screen flashed that Jackson had died, and people began relaying the news to friends by cell phone.

"No joke. King of Pop is no more. Wow," Michael Harris, 36, of New York City, read from a text message a friend sent to his telephone. "It's like when Kennedy was assassinated. I will always remember being in Times Square when Michael Jackson died."

Associated Press Writers Derrik J. Lang in Los Angeles and Virginia Byrne, Nekesa Mumbi Moody and Jocelyn Noveck in New York contributed to this report.

First Week - Check!

Our first week of work again in the office after the trip was not so bad. There were countless 'pasalubong ko?' greetings from almost everyone.. but of course I was prepared with an answer - in a warm but blunt manner (pwede b un?) 'wala e' sabay 'hehe - musta ka naman?'.

Hopefully, with God's help.. everything goes smoothly all throughout the training.

-----------------------------

I missed a lot of movies when I was away. I didn't get to see any because I'd personally rather keep the 10dollars than give it up for a movie. And so there are quite a few that's on my list:

  1. transformers
  2. the proposal
  3. hangover
.. this is merely a note to self.
-----------------------------

alright.. first weekend - check!

...prepare for remyxx get-together next week

I Heart Manila

The reason I love BAYO so much is because of their love for simple designs, plus the fact that its owned by a local family... I Heart Manila and Fabulous Pinay are few of their slogans that I love.

.. ok, that was just an introduction, :) I love their shoutout, so let me just borrow that.

I am finally home, from the longest business trip I had (so far!). I won't complain, although it wasn't easy to be on board for about 13 hours, deplaning and boarding back, plus the fact that I had to pull some 40+ pound hand carry, with other loose items around me. I know it's more than the allowed, but I passed the checking and all eh?

I won't bore you with the details of the travel. Ok, let me take that back.

The travel began with a delayed flight from Covington, Kentucky to Detroit airport. We landed in Detroit at 11AM - next flight was 3:30 to Japan. We had lunch at Max and Erma's inside the airport first, after which we waited at the lounge near the gates and played cards. I didn't capture any pics but thanks to Dave and Buster's playing cards.. we were successful in killing time.

"He's not just in to you" (or something like that) aired during our fight from Detroit to Japan so I got to watch something I've not seen yet.. hehe. We got screened for AH1N1 when we got to Nagoya Internatiol Airport - I think nobody was pulled for quarantine, which was good.

After 45 mins of petiks time.. we left Nagoya and headed to Manila.. a 4 hour flight that made me sleep almost the entire time. But of course, I get to wake up occassionally - either because of food, snack or drinks :)

I know... my post doesn't make sense, I need more sleep... have work tonight na. My body is a little sore from pulling and lifting my bags.

Humid Manila.. goodnight muna.

Send Off Dinner

Kris Spier, our Client Operations Manager invited us for a dinner at their place.

Their house was pretty and totally gorgeous. Today is also Mickey's (Team Leader) 30th birthday. We surprised him with a cake and sparklers that we got him off guard. :)

Kris prepared Steak, Grilled Chicken, mixed vegetables and salad. We had cake as dessert. I forgot the name of her dog, but that boxer was very playful!

-----------------------------

Our flight to Manila is tomorrow at 11AM. All my bags are packed already (it's about time!) and I absolutely think my bags are more than the allowed weight. I'll just close my eyes for some charges.. I just want to get this done and over with.

I pray that everything goes smoothly tomorrow, from sealing our respective boxes, checking in, going through checkpoints to boarding the main aircraft that will fly us to Japan. By the way our route is Covington - Detroit, Detroit to Japan, Japan to Manila.

May the Lord guide and bless our trip, the pilots and crew and everyone else in the plane.

.. time to get the business rolling..

Benihana

my PC clock shows 11:27 PM.. on a Thursday evening and I'm still wide awake. Uhmm, not exactly happily awake.. more of like 'work mode' still awake.

this afternoon during lunch, we tried something different - Benihana that is at 6th East St.
The restaurant uses Teppanyaki style - a Japanese method of cooking that uses iron griddle or teppan to cook food. We all had LUNCH BOXES - choice of any 2 or 3 combination - chicken, shrimp, scallop, beef julienne, calamari, mushrooms, i forgot the rest.

Hmm, I didn't find the food so different - it even tasted ordinary to me.. I guess what made it special is how it was prepared....

.. indeed :)

TGIF in a little while! :D

Roller Coaster Week!

I declare this week as the craziest as of yet.

It seems like training preparation is just endless. We've been creating, revising, retyping modules over and over and over.. and it feels like forever! Add the fact that we're going home this weeken..so there's a lot of things that I've been thinking one on top of the other.

I've been re-doing my luggage for the nth time already... I had to change my box, re-tape them back, buy carry-on luggage, pack, pack and more packing, and practically waste money.

Oh, not to forget the buy thing... hehe, got my first CK bag today - gosh! so happy, LOL.. mababaw lang ako e,. Add my new Nike, LC and XOXO to that.. nyahahaha.

Oh well, I have to find time to vent and smile in this roller coaster week...

hold on tight! :)

EDIT:
we had lunch today at Longhorn Steak restaurant. I'll surely miss a free steak so I made sure to try it out.. possibly for the last time.

Here's my medium-well Ribeye Steak with a side of fresh vegetable and Lobster Bisque.

Trip to the Cincinnati Museum

Tech Team is very fortunate again to be given free tickets to go to the museum.. and again, we're very thankful to CFO - Gary, in making this happen. :)

The museum was broken into 3 categories - Cincinnati History Museum, Dinosaurs Unearthed, and Museum of Natural History and Science. Actually, there's one more museum - I think it's for kids.

Fire Alarm @ Extended Stay America

believe me, I wasn't really happy then. I guess when I'm excited and my heart's pumping fast, I can't help but smile

---------------------------------------------------------

Past 8PM earlier tonight
I was alone and busy in my room, sitting on my bed while working on 2 laptops.. watching House.

Suddenly I heard a very loud screeching-like noise. It was continuous, irritating and really loud.

Hotels nowadays are equipped with so much sensors - one time that my friend was frying a fish in her small kitchen.. she made her smoke alarm ring.. It didn't really cause panic, the receptionist just called us at once and told us to close the door... I am positive the sound I heard was totally different. I was even looking at my own kitchen just to check if I caused it, but hell no.

Not knowing what to do.. I opened my door and saw that the Fire Alarms at the hallway are already blinking, and the sound is everywhere not only in my room.. I quickly went inside and called the receptionist to ask what's wrong (I don't know what I was thinking, it doesn't seem like I understand the urgency - can you believe that I actually found time to call the receptionist?!?) Anyway, receptionist said he's not sure what's happening and suggested I just go down. Quickly.. I packed both laptops and ran down the stairs shaking, my heart beating fast.

My team mates who were downstairs already were very calm. They laughed when they saw me and asked my why I have a bag.. I simply said "I packed what I can and ran at once" (LOL, in reality, I was the only one left upstairs!)

Few seconds... maybe 10, firetrucks came..

It was a false alarm. They didn't see any fire or anything like it. I went back to my room, laughing and shaking still.

... whew, what a drill!

Taste of Cincinnati

Had a long weekend :)

Memorial day this year fell on a Monday so we were off from work from Saturday till Monday. This is the best opportunity for others too, to visit their relatives, family and friends.. and so 3 out of 8 from the team went to NY, LA and VA.

The remaining peeps (which is us) decided to celebrate with the locals and join their Taste of Cincinnati festive. It all happened in Downtown Cincinnati in the long strip of Fifth Street, from Race to Broadway. There were roughly around 40 establishments there which showcased their best of the bests.
